Step 2 — Your estimate
Your estimated costs
National median cost (NFDA, 2023)

What this typically includes
Usually charged separately — NOT in this median
Every funeral home must tell you the price of what you ask about — you can request price information over the phone, and an itemized General Price List in person (FTC Funeral Rule). Comparing two or three providers is the single best way to confirm real local prices.
Step 3 — Are you financially ready?
Enter amounts already set aside for funeral expenses. Your entries are used only to do the math on your device — the numbers you enter are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Estimate the benefit amount, not the premium. If unsure, leave blank.
The quote review is optional and always free. Coverage depends on underwriting — approval, premiums, and eligibility are never guaranteed.
Three ways families close a gap
- Designated savings — set aside in an account the family can reach quickly.
- Final expense insurance — a life insurance benefit paid to your family that can be used for funeral and other final costs. Some policies have no medical exam; availability and price depend on age, health, and the carrier.
- Benefits and programs — veterans' burial benefits, and in some cases county or state assistance. Ask early; rules and paperwork vary.
Important. Figures are national medians (NFDA, 2023) shown for general education — they are estimates, not guaranteed prices, and your local costs may be higher or lower. Cemetery property and services (plot, grave opening and closing, burial vault, and marker) are typically billed separately — often by the cemetery — and are NOT included in these medians. The insurance discussion is optional and separate from the cost estimates above. Caring Senior Plans is an independent brokerage comparing options from multiple carriers; nothing here is a guarantee of eligibility, premiums, approval, or savings. This tool provides general educational information, not legal, financial, or insurance advice.
